WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Open World Leadership Center (the Center) is announcing that the United States Congress has approved a name change to the Congressional Office for International Leadership (COIL). The Board of Trustees’ voted to adopt the name Congressional Office for International Leadership to more accurately reflect the mission and Congressional affiliation of the agency.

The Center will continue to implement the Open World program which it has administered since 1999.

About the Center Founded in 1999 by Congress, the Open World program, administered by the Congressional Office for International Leadership (COIL), maintains a vast network of more than 29,000 alumni in strategic countries including Russia, Ukraine, and others in the Balkans, Caucuses, Central Asia and Eastern Europe. COIL supports international outreach efforts for Members of Congress by conducting exchanges that establish lasting professional relationships between emerging leaders and their U.S. counterparts. Program participants are provided with extensive exposure to American politics, accountable governance, and citizen diplomacy, while being home hosted by American families.
