WASHINGTON, D.C. —Today, Open World Leadership Center welcomes its sixth delegation of Senator Ben Nelson Fellows composed of six medical doctors from Russia. Open World’s Board of Trustees created the Nelson Fellows program to honor Senator Nelson's contribution to Open World and improve ties between the United States and Russia. Senator Nelson served on Open World’s Board of Trustees since March 2016. From 2009-2012, Senator Nelson served on the Board as Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on the Legislative Branch.

After an orientation in Washington, D.C., the delegation’s professional program will take place in Nebraska, Senator Nelson’s home state. The group will be hosted by the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha from February 2–10. In Omaha, delegates will gain insight into American best practices in cardiology. At UNMC, delegates will meet medical professionals, tour laboratories, address topics in public health and discuss academic research in cardiology. At the end of the program, Mr. Walter Scott, former Open World Trustee, Mr. Michael Yanney, former Open World Trustee, and Senator Ben Nelson will host a farewell lunch at the Omaha Country Club. Representing Open World will be Jane Sargus, Executive Director.
